CosmoDP
Software-defined data pump for highly efficient data transmission
Digital data must be transmitted over a wide variety of physical channels. Bandwidth, noise, interference, and distortion affects the achievable data rate and transmission quality. The more accurately a modem accounts for the characteristics of a given channel, the more efficiently it can utilize the available transmission capacity.
Specialized standard solutions are available for applications such as LTE, Wi-Fi, or ADSL. The situation is different for applications whose transmission channels have specific requirements and for which standard solutions are either unavailable or fail to deliver the necessary performance.
DSP Systems GmbH has many years of experience with such demanding channels. These include, in particular:
• Medium- and high-voltage power lines with complex distortions and interference,
• poor-quality and long wire lines, such as existing 2-wire lines or submarine cables,
• radio channels of conventional analog radios,
• radio channels with fading, Doppler effects, and interference.
The software-defined data pump CosmoDP was developed for these various tasks. Using a common hardware platform, a wide range of modem applications can be implemented by customizing the DSP and FPGA software.
