Digital audio and data transmission over existing 2-wire lines
When providing sound reinforcement for large venues such as train stations, stadiums, concert halls, or churches, multiple digital audio streams must be transmitted from a central unit to spatially distributed loudspeakers. Rewiring with Ethernet is often complex and expensive.
Cosmo2L enables the use of existing 2-wire lines for modern digital audio and data transmission. The software-defined OFDM modem, developed by DSP Systeme GmbH, transmits up to eight digital audio streams as well as bidirectional data over a single 2-wire line. Simultaneously, the connected loudspeakers can be powered via this line.
In addition to audio signals, data is transmitted in both directions. From the central unit to the loudspeakers, parameters such as ON/OFF, volume, and beamforming can be configured. In the opposite direction, the loudspeakers can report telemetry data such as signal quality and transmission channel parameters back to the central unit.
The audio chain remains entirely digital. Audio signals can, for example, reach the central unit via Dante (Audio-over-IP) and be transferred there to the master modem via a TDM bus.
