Optris PI 640i now available with 120° ultra-wide-angle lens

World novelty - new IR camera lens enables optimal field of view

Berlin, June 2025 – With the new 120° lens for the high-resolution infrared camera
PI 640i, Optris is launching a world novelty. As the first ultra-wide-angle lens of its kind, it covers a horizontal field of view (FOV) of 120° – an unprecedented value in the field of industrial infrared thermography.

The new lens was specifically developed for applications where multiple process steps or stations need to be monitored simultaneously. Thanks to the wide field of view, a single camera is often sufficient to fully monitor large areas – such as rotary kilns, multi-stage production lines, or extensive indoor and outdoor facilities. The new ultra-wide-angle lens enables a complete 360 degree temperature monitoring setup with only three PI 640i infrared cameras.

120° lens expands the PI 640i’s existing optics portfolio
“The new 120° lens is a true milestone for all applications requiring wide-area temper-ature monitoring at high heat levels – for example, in indoor facilities like waste incin-eration plants or in outdoor environments such as substations,” emphasizes Ingo Stahlkopf, Head of Sales at Optris. “Combined with the high resolution of 640 x 480 pixels and the exceptional thermal sensitivity of 60 mK offered by the PI 640i, this new lens delivers maximum safety and efficiency – even in complex production environ-ments.”

The 120° lens complements the existing lens portfolio of the PI 640i (15°, 33°, 60°, 90°) and, like all versions, supports easy interchangeability and calibration. The cam-era is suitable for temperature ranges from -20 to 1500 °C and enables radiometric video recording at up to 125 Hz in subframe mode. The scope of delivery includes the
license-free analysis and control software PIX Connect as well as a comprehensive SDK for individual integration solutions.

With this new ultra-wide-angle 120° lens, Optris once again demonstrates its innova-tion strength and offers customers a forward-looking solution for the most demanding monitoring tasks.
